Also known as a public translation, sworn translation ensures, through public faith, the truthfulness of documents with foreign languages in Brazil and of Brazilian documents abroad.
This type of translation is necessary for your documents to be valid before public bodies, entities, or authorities in the country where you intend to present them.
Sworn translation must be done by a sworn translator at the Commercial Board of your country - it cannot be done by anyone who masters the languages of the original and target document. Furthermore, it is important that the translation of documents be a faithful copy of the original document.
What is Sworn Translation Used For?
Sworn translation is used to comply with the formalities required by international laws (legal processes or procedures) when it is necessary to present a document originally issued in another country in any public institution or that is supervised by the federal, state, or municipal government.
Thus, its purpose is to validate documents that are in other languages abroad. For example, if a person completes an undergraduate degree in Brazil and intends to pursue a postgraduate degree abroad, they must translate their documents into the language of the country where they intend to study so that they are valid.
